Join the race to help orphaned pets by participating in Humane Society Naples’ 15th Annual Run for the Paws 5K! Thousands of human participants and their canine companions have taken part in this race, providing our community with a healthy and fun event that gets bigger and better every year. Our in-person 5k will be limited to 250 participants this year but participating from home is easier than ever.

New this year: Virtual 5k! Support Humane Society Naples within your own comfort zone and join us virtually. Our virtual race is going to be a fun way to promote animal welfare and raise funds for our critical work in the community. Though we won’t run and walk together, we can still participate with a purpose – to save animal lives! A virtual 5k kit will be emailed to you prior to race day.

Race Packet Pick-up

It is strongly encouraged that you pick up your packet early.

When:

  • Thursday, January 28, from 5:00pm-7:00
  • Friday, January 29, from 8:00am-6:00 pm

Where:

  • Humane Society Naples, 370 Airport Pulling Road North, Naples, FL 34104. Look for the HSN Branded Tents.

Masks/face coverings and social distancing required at packet pickup at Humane Society Naples.

Race day packet pick up will begin at 7:00 am (60 minutes before race start) at the Civil Air Patrol Building. Please try to pick up in advance.

Race Information

Q: Will you limit the capacity of the in-person run/walk?
A: We will limit the capacity of the 2021 Run for the Paws 5k to 250 people and offer a virtual option to supporters. 

Q: What does the virtual option mean?
A: While gathering restrictions mean that we cannot all come together in person, we will still walk/run for their lives on Saturday, January 30th!  We are putting together some fun suggested walk routes featuring selfie stations, DIY race kit with race bib and other fun items, and more!  Be sure to watch our “Event Info” Page for more details!

Q: Will all event participants receive a t-shirt?
A: YES!  Part of your registration fee includes our event t-shirt which all participants will still receive.  We will have outside packet pick-up at our Humane Society Naples main building (370 Airport Pulling Rd. N)

If you are participating out of town we will mail out shirts on Wednesday, February 3rd, 2021. More details and information to come, including social distancing guidelines for packet pickup.

Q: I was unable to pick up my t-shirt and goodies. Will you mail it to me?
A: Because of the costs and logistics in mailing out shirts, we will not mail out any shirts, unless the participant registers from out of town.* You may also pick up your shirt during our Packet Pickup on Dates TBD. In addition, you may have someone else pick up your shirt on your behalf.

Registration & Fundraising

Q: How do I register myself or others for the race?

Q: Do I need to pay a registration fee for my dog?
A: No! Our canine guests are free, but we do limit no more than one (1) dog per registered participant. Dogs must be on a leash (retractable leashes prohibited) and up to date on all vaccinations and records. Failure to adhere to this policy may result in being asked to leave the event with no refund issued.

Q: I registered for the event but can no longer attend. Can I get a refund?
A: Because our registration fees help cover our event costs, we are unable to issue any refunds for any reason (including but not limited to: illness, cancellation of event due to weather, family emergency, etc.).

Q: What does my registration fee cover? If I am fundraising for this event does it count towards my goal?
A: Your registration fee covers our costs associated with putting on the event, such a t-shirt and event logisitics. In order to encourage additional fundraising to help us raise funds for homeless dogs and cats, we DO count the registration fee towards your fundraising goal!

Pet Questions

Q: Can I bring more than one dog?
A: For the safety of all animals and humans, only one dog per human is allowed.

Q: What type of leash should I use?
A: Only non-retractable leashes are allowed at the Run for the Paws 5k.

Q: Are dog strollers allowed?
A: YES but dogs must still wear a non-retractable leash in case they jump out.

Q: May I bring a cat if they are in a carrier/stroller? 
A: You may however, we discourage owners from doing so. With many dogs in attendance, the environment is very stressful for most cats.

COVID-19 Procedures

General Overview

This plan will be utilized to ensure that we meet all of the local guidelines, CDC and local requirements regarding social distancing and hygienic best practices ensuring the safety of our racers, volunteers, and staff. There will be hand sanitizer dispensers at all check-in areas, check-out areas, and aid stations available to everyone. All of our COVID-19 Procedures will be available prior to registration and on our event website. An update will be sent 24 hours prior to the event as a reminder. We will also include that these rules are “subject to change” based on local guidelines, CDC and local requirements. 

Humane Society Naples & Gulf Coast Runners reserve the right to cancel this event if necessary as the safety of our community is first priority.  

Volunteers and Staff

  • Humane Society Naples & Gulf Coast Runners will limit the number of staff and volunteers on-site to only those needed to provide basic racing services.
  • All volunteers and staff will be required to wear a mask/face covering at all times. 
  • Each volunteer/staff member will be trained as to the best practices and processes that are in place for this event and for their specific tasks.
  • All staff and volunteers will need to sign a waiver stating they have not had any symptoms nor been around anyone that is exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms. Anyone who is unable to complete the waiver will be sent home.

Runner Arrival & Check-In

  •  Participants agree not to participate / report to the course on race day if on race day or within 14 days prior to the event, the participant or a member of the household
    • a.) tests positive for SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19
    • b.) experiences symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and/or
    • c.) has a close-contact exposure to someone symptomatic for or known to be positive for COVID-19″
  • Masks will be required while waiting in lines at pickup or registration, traveling to and from transportation, using the restroom and waiting for the event to start or finish. 
  • Pre-race packet pick-up will be STRONGLY encouraged.
  • Race registrations will not be accepted the day of the race.
  • Friends & family are asked to stay out of the check-in area. They will be allowed in the grass area by the finish line and will be required to socially distance and wear masks.
  • Runners will be socially distanced at the starting line into waves to limit the number of people on the course at any given time.
  • The first wave of runners will start the race at 8:00 am; the second wave of runners will go 10 seconds later, and all subsequent waves will continue on this timeline.
  • Participants are asked to carry their own hydration.
  • Participants will be offered bottled water & a pre-packaged snack bar at the finish. There will be no food served at the finish line; congregation, shared utensils, possible airborne contaminants all pose an undue risk.

Finish & Check-Out

  • After runners cross the finish line, there will be bottled water available. They will then be directed to exit and leave the race area. No congregating on-premises is allowed.
  • We will not post results on site as it creates a congregation point. Results link will be posted online. 
  • Awards will be available for pick-up at Humane Society Naples the following week.
