It doesn’t take a lot of money or time to enhance the lives of our shelter pets. A little novelty goes a long way with them. Toys like turbo scratches, handmade catnip filled child socks for our kitties and treats like Milkbones or Pup-peroni for our pups help with their constant need for enrichment – and are always appreciated!
It’s more than mental health. It gives our animals life skills that help them stay in their furever home. A sterile environment can lead to unwanted behaviors (such as clawing at furniture, chewing clothing items) due to stress and/or boredom.
Enrichment of all kind while in a shelter environment decreases stress in the animals which decreases the rate of illness and increases the animals’ adoptability.
